Open Letter to Mayor Tory and Members of Council

As presidents of two major municipal unions, we submit this open letter for your consideration as you move toward final approval of the 2023 City Budget on February 14. It seems like nearly every day there’s a report of violence on the TTC, on our streets, in our parks, our schools, or in our libraries.

As Black History Month unfolds before us, we are reminded of the immense contributions that Black Canadians have made and continue to make to our society. From the frontlines of the civil rights movement to the ongoing fight for justice and equality, Black Canadians have been and continue to be at the forefront of social change.

RELEASE: Torontonians of all income levels want a more livable city now

TORONTO – Even the wealthiest Torontonians agree: Toronto should raise property taxes on the wealthiest homes to invest now in public services. A recent poll found the vast majority of voters—from across the whole city and across all demographics—support making investments now in public and community services, even if it means a small property tax increase for property valued over $2.5 million.
