TAKE ACTION: Protect Our Charter Rights!
Tell City Council: No Restrictions on Free Speech in Toronto!
Toronto City Council is considering implementing a by-law which would lead to massive restrictions to our charter rights to free speech and free assembly by restricting protests at a variety of sites across the city. If put in place, it could make virtually all protests, rallies, and pickets in Toronto unlawful.
This map shows where protests and pickets could be banned in Toronto. This could effect every single union at every single workplace.
Right now, these basic rights and our sovereignty are under threat by U.S. President Trump. Trump is restricting protests in the US, because he understands that restricting and limiting these rights will allow him to more easily undermine democracy everywhere – these rights stand as a bulwark against the corporate agenda that Trump and his Canadian counterparts push.
To fight back against U.S. aggression and protect our democracy, City Council should be doing everything it can to defend and strengthen our rights, not restrict and weaken them.
